Breast Imaging, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor

Description:  The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking full time radiologists specialized in Breast Imaging to join an expanding Breast Imaging section.  This position is a full-time specialized breast radiologist (fellowship trained or fellowship-equivalent), and the academic appointment will be at a rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. This individual is expected to make a significant impact in the field of Breast Imaging and to contribute to a collegial environment that will promote the academic and clinical growth of the section.  The faculty responsibilities include: to provide clinical services and innovate care delivery; to support and engage in teaching for residents and fellows; to expand research programs and participate in the academic mission; and to advance quality improvement programs and value initiatives.  The Section supports an outstanding Breast Imaging fellowship program.  The Department is known internationally for its excellence in educational innovations and imaging research.

Qualifications:  The candidate should be American Board of Radiology (or equivalent) certified or eligible, Breast Imaging fellowship (or equivalent)-trained in all aspects of clinical breast imaging.  Outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite.  The successful candidate must have the ability to interpret digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRI examinations, and be able to perform core biopsies and preoperative needle localizations using x-ray, ultrasound and MRI guidance.  The candidate should have a strong academic interest and prior evidence of excellence in education and/or research productivity.

Facilities and Institution:  The breast imaging section provides clinical services for the University hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI-designated premier cancer center, and multiple outpatient centers throughout the Wasatch front.  Expanding practice with the new dedicated multispecialty outpatient center, the Kathryn F. Kirk Center for Women’s Cancers opening in the fall of 2022.  Extensive imaging resources are available for both clinical work and research, including multiple MRIs with breast MRI biopsy capability, dedicated breast US units with elastography, tomosynthesis guided biopsy systems, a mobile mammography unit, intraoperative MRI, PET-CT scanners, and innovative breast localization techniques.  Pre-clinical imaging resources, such as micro PET-MRI and 7T MRI, are also available. The section has also fostered close collaborative relationships with multiple departments including surgery, oncology, and pathology. Research opportunities abound, with a broad case mix from the sources described above, as well as the world-class unique support provided by the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR) in the Department.  UCAIR offers international expertise in imaging sciences, including basic sciences, physics and engineering, MRI research, and CT and PET research.  The group is working on breast cancer treatment using MR-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).  The University of Utah Health Sciences offer various leadership programs and research training opportunities for faculty members.  A leader in quality care, the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics were ranked #1 in Quality, Safety, and Accountability among all academic medical centers in 2016 and consistently has ranked in the top 10 over the past six years in a row.

Location:  The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, in the foothill of the Wasatch Mountains at the western edge of the Rocky Mountains.  Salt Lake City is a rapidly growing, multicultural city, listed at 7th Best Place for Business and Careers by Forbes Magazine in 2015.
